Pete Rock and Nas Will Work Together on The Lost Tapes Vol. 2

Nas won't say much about his next project, but Pete Rock has some news. He announced on Twitter that he and Nas will be working together on The Lost Tapes Volume 2, just like they did Illmatic together back in the day. Judging off the success of that album (First and only five-mic rated debut album in history) this new project will be sick.

Kanye West’s New Album Comes Out On 11/22

Kanye’s dropping his (still-untitled) fifth studio album on November 22nd, which is the Monday before Black Friday. But what does this say about him and Jay’s Watch The Throne album, that was rumored to drop on 11/23. Oh well we will see

What music have you been listening to lately? What have you discovered, what speaks to you these days?

My iPod now has about 2,000 songs, and it is a source of great pleasure to me. I am probably still more heavily weighted toward the music of my childhood than I am the new stuff. There’s still a lot of Stevie Wonder, a lot of Bob Dylan, a lot of Rolling Stones, a lot of R&B, a lot of Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Those are the old standards.
A lot of classical music. I’m not a big opera buff in terms of going to opera, but there are days where Maria Callas is exactly what I need.
Thanks to Reggie [Love, the president's personal aide], my rap palate has greatly improved. Jay-Z used to be sort of what predominated, but now I’ve got a little Nas and a little Lil Wayne and some other stuff, but I would not claim to be an expert. Malia and Sasha are now getting old enough to where they start hipping me to things. Music is still a great source of joy and occasional solace in the midst of what can be some difficult days.

Mos Def signs to G.O.O.D. Music

It's official. The Brooklyn MC signs to the rapidly growing label. A quote from the most recent XXL magazine reads:
“Just as Kanye returned to his roots to scoop up Common, he recently recruited his buddy Brooklyn rapper/singer/actor Mos Def into the GOOD Music fold. Long regarded as a formidable talent by underground devotees and mainstream fans alike, Mos appeared on “Two Words” (from Kanye’s 2005 The College Dropout) and “Drunk and Hot Girls” (from KW’s 2007 Graduation). Since his 1999 solo debut, Black on Both Sides, Mos has increasingly been pushed — whether by generational choices or self-exile — to the fringes of indie, alternative hip hop. Maybe it will take Kanye to reign him in."

Nasty Nas' New Project

Nas announced on Twitter that he will finally come out will a follow up to his 2002 classic compilation, The Lost Tapes. It's scheduled to release on December 14th, but if you've been keeping up with music recently (i.e. G.O.O.D music pushing back all of their releases) you should keep an eye out for this date to change.

Wale Discusses Kid Cudi Drama

Friday night Wale calls in to Dj Drama's radio station and discusses Kid Cudi drama. If you don't know Kid Cudi was in Complex magazine and made this comment about Wale :

Speaking of Wale, when you hit that fan at your show last December, he came out with a line about it ["Throwin' 'round wallets like the dude that Kid Cudi hit," from "Thank You Freestyle"].

Kid Cudi: It wasn’t a shot, it’s just a simple-ass rhyme by a simple-ass rapper. You can’t let that shit faze you. That’s one of those raps that just shows the world that you wack. Why would you even use that as a metaphor? Everybody think they Hov. Niggas ain’t got the magic like they think they do; there’s only a couple of wizards in this game. I’m a wizard and I know it.

Album Review - Curren$y "Pilot Talk"

This summer I did three things everyday. Eat, sleep, and listen to Curren$y's "Pilot Talk."This album is superb. Fire from start to finish. I am struggling to think of something wrong with this album, and to be perfectly honest I can't. Last year we saw the success of Wiz Khalifa's "Kush & OJ"and I can say that this album is as good if not better. When it comes to both these rappers you know exactly what you are going to get. Marijuana lovers rapping about smokin' doobies with sexy ladies. People often forget that Curren$y use to go bar for bar with Lil Wayne back in the day. So if you need lyrics this album has it. The one thing that Spitta does so well is his clever way of approaching each and every song. You have the base heavy song "Audio Dope II," the clever hook in "King Kong,"the enticing sound of the piano and flutes in the beat of "Roasted." And that's just 3 songs. I would have to say that if this album is not on your Ipod, Ipod Touch, Ipad, Mac, PC, or phone then either you don't have any of the previous electronics or your crazy.

Album Review - The Roots "How I Got Over"

When it comes to The Roots there is no middle ground. You either love them or you don't. 

The only problem is how can you not love The Roots especially after listening to "How I Got Over." The Roots provide their listeners with the perfect blend of hip hop and jazz. Ok now I understand if you don't like jazz, but there is no way you can hear BlackThought on these tracks and not nod your, or love every syllable that comes out of his mouth. The album also features rapper Blu, P.O.R.N, and Dice Raw multiple times. Each of these artist go perfectly over the rhythmic beats provided by the band. Now if you are trying to get hyped up or go crazy then this is not the album for you. But if you want to relax and listen to the amazing tracks, the "How I Got Over" is the perfect album for you. Enjoy.

T.I. & Tiny Arrested in L.A.

Damn T.I. just when I thought you were going to make a comeback.

Clifford and Tameka were arrested late last night in Los Angeles after their Maybach was pulled over on Sunset Blvd. and the officers smelled the aroma of piff wafting from the vehicle. They were later released on $10,000 bail (which seems kinda steep for some trees), but I’m sure somebody from the U.S. Attorney’s office is going to want to holler at him about this. Not to mention that, to some folks, this will pretty much negate all of that new leaf turning over he was spitting during his weapons case.
