Definitely one of my favorite movies of all time is Friday. To this day it still makes me laugh. In a recent interview Ice Cube had this to say:

Drake Interview
Drake explains to Sway his methodology when approaching a mixtape versus an album. In his own words, he says:
“A mixtape can’t be the songs that don’t make your album, or songs that aren’t good enough to make your album make your mixtape — unless you’re that good. There aren’t that many people that are that good. I’m not that good. That mixtape [So Far Gone] is me working my hardest. It wasn’t ‘Oh, here are the songs I’m gonna give away to you ’cause I have better songs coming.’ A mixtape has become an album.
In some regards, Drake’s right. Although an album still is an album, a mixtape serves as a litmus test. Sway mentioned that the last new rapper to have a significant impact was 50 Cent. Not only was Fif’s tape 50 Cent Is The Future good, but it lead to something even better: Get Rich Or Tryin’. We’ll see if the cards are in Drizzy’s favor June 15th.

Eminem Renames "Relapse 2" to "Recovery"
Last night, Eminem’s Twitter displayed a message saying that Relapse 2 was dead, presumably because of a name change. Apparently Relapse 2 was supposed to be constructed of all the song that didn’t make it onto the first Relapse, but then they went ahead and threw those first few songs from the second project onto The Refill once Relapse 2 started to become a full body of work. This namechange reflects that this is now a project that stands on its own, but is still in a way linked to Em’s last album.
The first single is produced by Jim Jonsin, and as of right now, the album also has production by Just Blaze, Boi-1da and DJ Khalil.
Eminem’s Recovery drops June 22nd.

Up and Coming : Chocolate Milk
Here is my second Up and Coming post. This one is thanks to my man Kevin Waithe for alerting about this Temple group Chocolate Milk.Band members David Patrick, Andrew Aulenbach, Justin Davis, Luke Reitz, and Curtis Arnett compose this Temple based hip -hop jazz group. Their unique sound has caught the eyes and ears of many people hear on campus.
This Temple group really impressed me with their EP "Drink Up Life". This Hip-hop / jazz group finds a unique mix between the two genres. Definitely check out their mixtape "Drink Up Life" and stay alert because this group has the potential to be big.

In anticipation of Reflection Eternal's "Revolutions Per Minute" I thought for my album of the day I would post the duo's debut album "Train of Thought." This is probably producer Hi-Tek's best work, making unbelievable beats that Talib murders. This album has a real laid back tone and almost a neo soul type feel. The album also features songs with Mos Def and De La Soul. Check this classic album out. Enjoy.
